Autism & Sound Design
A research & development project, supported by Arts Council England

OVERVIEW
I will enhance my skills and understanding in sound design for theatre, rehearsing & developing an autism-centred practise that promotes accessibility in my creative work.
WHY AUTISM & SOUND?
My recent work has highlighted the inaccessibility issues in the arts for myself and for my peers, particularly with regard to audio processing and sound sensitivity. and through this funding I will be able to continue not only to access the theatre world, but to have a direct hand in changing it for the better.
RESEARCH AIMS
- Undertake interviews with Neurodivergent artists and theatregoers, in order to better understand their needs when it comes to Sound Design for Theatre.
- Complete a consultation on Sound Design for Vocal Health.
- Observe the process of designing for disabled creatives with a range of needs.
DEVELOPMENT AIMS
- Receive dedicated training in sound design for theatre, gaining skills in Logic Pro and QLab
- Undertake music composition lessons, developing music and songwriting skills
- Undertake training in Ableton, enhancing my capacity for digital composition.
ONWARD STEPS
I am hopeful that is project will spark beginnings of conversations in the rehearsal room, the theatre space and beyond. If you would like to talk about further collaboration or development, please drop me a message at julianbrettactor@gmail.com
